PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Sneakify started as a side project for us, two students who noticed a lack of unique footwear at our university. We saw many people wearing the same shoes, and realized there was an opportunity for more individuality. That's when we discovered Nike By You, a platform for creating custom sneakers. However, finding unique, custom-designed sneakers outside of Nike's offerings was a challenge, with designs scattered across Instagram, Reddit, and Pinterest.
This inspired us to create Sneakify, a dedicated social platform for sneaker designers and enthusiasts. Here, you can easily find custom sneakers to order through the Nike website, and designers can grow their communities and expand their follower base.
Our mission at Sneakify is to become the largest social platform for custom Nike sneakers created with Nike By You. Join us to explore, create, and showcase your unique sneaker designs.
BEHIND THE SCENES
During the summer break of 2024, we finally began working on a project that had been on our to-do list since 2021. Although we had conducted some research and tests back in 2021, which yielded positive results, it wasn't until this break that we officially started development. Remarkably, the results from our earlier tests remained successful in 2024, proving that our platform could stay relevant even as Nike continues to update its own website. This ensures that custom sneaker designs won’t become obsolete.
Sneakify is essentially a social media platform, similar to Instagram, but specifically for custom Nike By You sneakers. Our primary goal was to create a user-friendly experience where people could easily upload their custom sneaker designs for others to explore, and potentially purchase if they liked them.
My role in this project was to develop the working frontend and optimize the website to achieve high SEO and performance scores. This was quite challenging, particularly because we had to use high-quality images from Nike, which tend to have long loading times. After extensive testing with various strategies and different npm packages, we successfully optimized the website, achieving an impressive score of 96/100.
